Client: Biindigen Well-Being Centre Partners
Project Location: 785 Brittania Avenue, Hamilton
A new community centre of integrated health, family, social, education, and housing services and supports operating under the name Biindigen Well-Being Centre is being developed in the McQuesten neighbourhood.
Realizing the opportunity to do more – and better – through collaboration, this circle of partners has come together with a shared goal to establish a new and innovative Indigenous-led Well-Being Centre.
The Biindigen Well-Being Centre Partners are De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre (DAHC), Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg, and Ontario Aboriginal Housing Services (OAHS).
DAHC provides a blend of western and Indigenous Traditional Medicine in the urban centres of Brantford, Hamilton, and St. Catharines. DAHC will be re-developing their Hamilton office on this site. The re-developed site will share space with McMaster University’s Department of Family Medicine.
Niwasa is a not-for-profit, multi-service Indigenous organization that provides a range of programs such as Licensed Child Care, Youth Hub, Culture and Language and Homelessness prevention programming. They began operating on site in 2019 at which time they assumed responsibility for the McQuesten Urban Farm. They ceased their programming on site in early 2024 but will continue operating out of the new Biindigen Well-Being Centre.
OAHS is a non-profit Indigenous housing provider. This site will see a new build of approximately 100 housing units with services and supports accessible on site.
